Family Shower

As if two showers weren't enough, Cathy and Sharon put together a family baby shower for us as well!  I'm continually touched and amazed at everyone's generosity and caring.  It's a humbling thing.

This shower was full of fun games as well.  One involved guessing who belonged to which baby picture.   A little unfair for mine given that I'm the only haole in the bunch!!  But that was pretty fun.  Another one had me write down which characteristics from Mikey and I that I want the little alien to acquire.  Then everyone, Mikey included, had to guess what I had chosen.  See the end of this post for my answers.  That was my favorite game at this shower.

I was also pleased to find out that Mikey's immediate family is very good at keeping secrets.  When we told my OB that we told the immediate family the sex of the baby, but no one else, he said that there was no way it was going to remain secret.  Well, the grumbling we heard from extended family members as they arrived at the shower was proof enough!

Sharon arranged these roses and I got to take them home.  They brightened up our little condo--a bit of fresh beauty amongst the chaos.

We had the requisite cake, which was quite good.  Shanti and Zachary were on hand to help with the serving.

We also received plenty gifts.  People grumbled about not knowing what to get since they didn't know the sex, but I think everyone did just fine.  We're very nearly set for the little alien's arrival.

And now for the answers to which characteristics I want the little one to get from each of us...

Eyes - Siobhan (This one was difficult.  I want the alien to have Mikey's shape eyes, but my good eyesight.)

Nose - Mikey (My honker is ginormous!)

Ears - Siobhan 

Hair - Siobhan (Mikey's hair is coarser than mine...silky locks all the way!)

Chin - Siobhan (I like my sharp, cleft chin.)

Butt - Mikey (So cute, I can't help it.)

Legs - Mikey (Mikey has legs women just might kill for...)

Fingers - Mikey (My fingers are short and kind of stubby.  Mikey's are long and slender.)

Smile - Siobhan (It brightens up a room!)

Discipline - Mikey (When it comes down to it, I think Mikey might have more in a pinch.)

Humor - Siobhan (No need to comment on this one...)

Intelligence - Mikey (This one was tough!  But in a nod to Mikey, I gave it to him.)

Friendliness - Mikey (I'm shy around strangers.  Mikey is much more friendly.)

Creativity - Siobhan (Mikey can't even see shapes in the veins in the marble tiles!)

Singing Voice - Siobhan (Mikey's isn't bad either, but perhaps I'm a little vain.)

Patience - Siobhan (This goes without saying.)

Money Management - Siobhan (I have plenty years of experience!)

Culinary Skills - Mikey (Like a good Chinese boy, Mikey's masterpieces are delectable!)

Tidiness - Mikey (This actually says more about me than it does about Mikey...)

Timeliness - Mikey (Another toss-up.  We're both not the most prompt people in the world.)

The best part of this game was listening to people's reactions.  And Mikey got most of them right.
