We began with a traditional Hawaiian food -- poi. In general, it tastes a bit like paste, but this was the venerated Hanalei brand and mixed with some milk, it wasn't half bad.
Liam must have heard about poi's reputation...you're going to feed me what? What's that orange thing? At least he was cute in the bib from Uncle Steve!
Alright...I suppose I'll try it...
In the end, he was helping Mama get the spoon to his mouth!
After poi turned out to be a big success, even when mixed with water instead of milk, we tried avocado, which was also welcomed with relish. Then we did rice cereal, banana, oat cereal, and apple. All have gone over well and Liam gets super excited when he sees his bowl and spoon. Peas, however, were soundly rejected. It might have been the fibrous casing though, so we strained what was left and will try them again another day. At least we now know he's not indiscriminate when it comes to food! At least for now...
Anna is decidedly underwhelmed by rice cereal. Maybe applesauce will go over better.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Liam on baby food peas. Joy and Daniel detested them, and the bits I've sampled were awful. If they were fresh peas it might be a different story.
Heh, they were fresh peas! Well, frozen ones, anyway. Mikey makes Liam's food, so we've never actually given him jarred baby food. Turns out it was the casing, though. I figured that might be the case because when I ate them, I found that I was chewing and when I tried to eat them his way, I felt the little pieces clinging to the roof of my mouth. We strained the peas so that it was more of puree without the weird texture and he was back to his happy, eating self. And I put some garlic salt and pepper on what was left and ate it up! That's what happens with the other half of the avocado too.
ReplyDeleteI can see how Anna might be unimpressed by rice cereal---I thought it was really bland! Of course, I'm not really much of a cereal girl, myself. :) Here's hoping for better luck with the applesauce!
